The All England Club today has launched Centre Court: The Jewel in Wimbledon’s Crown a lavish coffee table book celebrating one of sport’s most historic and iconic venues. The book is available at the Wimbledon Online Shop (£25).
On a day which can only be described as a huge success for the All England Club, the new Centre Court roof received a huge vote of confidence from Tim Henman, Kim Clijsters, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf after their exhibition matches.
First, strangely, the good news: it rained. When could such an event at Wimbledon ever be said to be good news? Answer: on the day the new Centre Court roof was unveiled in front of a capacity crowd and a worldwide television audience.
It may have been billed as a fun event to mark the start of a new chapter for the All England Club, but one of today’s participants says that the Centre Court Celebration could just be the moment that changes her life.
Sometimes, somebody, somewhere has a brilliant idea.
It is not recorded whose masterstroke it was to invite Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf to be two of the four players chosen to play the exhibition Centre Court Celebration event under the new roof, but – whoever it was – give that person a gold star.
